Re-Start with Etsy

After much thought and 'can I keep going questions' I decided to re-open my old Heckety Beck Etsy shop. Nothing is ever quite as straightforward as one thinks though, is it?

Firstly I was horrified to discover I last used it in 2010... just where did those years go? And then I discovered that the email account associated with the shop had lapsed and been wiped by Outlook, oops. No way to sign in, ergo, no way to reactivate the shop, which is a pity as I had some lovely reviews.

More thought; open a new shop; what would I call it... Heckety 2? A tad unimaginative, no?

What rhymes with 'two'? A lot more words than I thought!

And thus was conceived: Heckety Blue.

I have been very efficient this time, read Etsy articles to refresh my memory, started laying out the shop, begun lists of what I think will sell and what I can make (meshing ideas and skills is the trick!), tidying the sewing room and putting away all the Christmas fabric, and now I am about to begin making. Exciting stuff.

I am hoping that this will give me focus as well as eke out the living expenses. Being too unwell to return to teaching or work even half-time really saps the endurance, let alone the sense of identity and community one gets from an enjoyable work environment. And I do love playing with fabric!

In the shop I am hoping to stock useful and attractive items, probably mostly home wares as that is what I like. They will vary with my ideas and what fabric I can find, and when I get a yen to dye everything in sight they will be sewn from dyed cloth. I want to enjoy myself too, and this time there will be hand-work and 'slow-stitching' so that I can continue to keep my hands busy even when I am too fatigued to work at the sewing machine.

And there it is. Plans. Hopes. This time next year I will re-read this post and assess whether I achieved.
