Dog Day
Sandy says every day is a Dog Day, but apparently today is International Dog Day. She's good company, gives only occasional sass, makes me get up every morning even on the bad days, and is a great conversationalist. People who think dogs are dumb have never lived with one!
Last night I discovered 'The Durrells' on Netflix, oh joy! It reminds me of the early days living abroad; sun and heat, freedom, the pure unfetteredness and excitement of new places, new people, new language, and so much to see and do. I had forgotten how entertaining Gerald Durrall's stories are too, I must find the Corfu books and reread them.
It is disturbing how even close friends, who one thought one knew pretty well, can surprise one with belief in conspiracy theories. Though I get weary of trying to stay on top of the Coronavirus news and guidelines, and certainly fed up with some of the hype and seemingly overblown reporting, I try to be compliant for the sake of my family at the least. I try to read the reputable scientific information to keep informed. So discovering someone close to my girls thinks its rubbish and is being utterly careless... that is cause for disassociation.
Sadly the whole issue of Climate Change appears to have been shelved, glossed over, relegated to the back seat for many. People are dying from Covid, I know it is dire, but people are dying as the result of Climate Change too, and have been doing so for longer than the Covid outbreak. The planet should recover from Covid, no matter how sad, distressing, appalling it is. The planet will not recover from Climate Change unless action is taken at the highest, most influential levels. Je vous demande: what is the point of emerging from Covid to discover we have no viable planet?
